NEW RELEASES |
You will be able to find here news about the latest Volvo scale models which have been announced or just been released. |
The number seventy-five in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 165. Some might say: "what??!!! … a 164 estate … Volvo never produced such a car!".
Well that is neither completely wrong nor right. Some of you might be lucky to catch a glimpse of this Volvo somewhere around the globe. But you will for sure find a few examples on the web. Here is a short background information: quote by Fredrik Nybard - the owner of a Volvo 165: The Volvo 164 was a step up for Volvo. Offering an official 165 estate would have made the 164 less prestigious and it would have made the production of further body forms §way more complicated. The production was based on the wheelbase length and the 164 was roughly 100 mm longer as the 140/145 so that the long straight six cylinder would fit.

Four years ago Matrix Scale Models announced the first r-t-r model of a Volvo 245 Transfer as a scale model. The first run was a blue painted version of Volvo's extended 245 estate. It took Matrix Scale Models quite some time to release a second livery of this rather unusual car. The second production run will reflect Volvo's stretched estate in the livery of a Taxi. The 1:43 scale model made out of resin will be finished in white and will feature a pretty exact copy of a Taxi sign on the roof. Well yes the Taxi sign looks a little oversized on the first photos of this new replica. The scale model features round headlamps. You will probably notice that the two pics in this post are showing the version with the small rectangular headlamps. Please have a look at the scanned catalog and you will see the version with the older round headlamps. Matrix Scale Models will offer their replica as 1:43 resin model. You can order your copy under item # MX12106-052. This will be a rather small and limited production batch so hurry if you wanna be sure to have at least one of these in your collection.
The number seventy-four in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 940 Turbo. This 1:43 scale diecast model represents the last generation of Volvo's 940 model range. Volvo offered this final production batch of the 940 series from 1996 to 1998. It was one of Volvo's last rear-wheel drive cars.
BoS-Models has announced end of Mai a H0 replica of the Volvo P1900 Sport. The 1:87 scale model will be made out of resin model with no moving or opening parts. BoS-Models has released a photo of the P1900 finished in blue with white interior. I can't tell you if this photo shows the final production model or a pre-production hand-sample. But you can be sure that BoS-Models will release further paint schemes in the future. A precise release date is not yet known. You will have to spent € 19.95 for being able to add it to your scale model collection. You will be able to order it directly from ModelCarWorld's web-shop. I am personally looking forward to this model and I really hope that it will be a proper replica of the original car.
The P1900 is one of the few Volvo models not well known by the grand public. It was and still is a very lovely design and it is a shame that production ceased after only 68 built cars. The P1900 had, as did the Corvettes, a body made out of polyester. The body was reinforced with fiberglass and was mounted on a tubular-steel chassis. The number seventy-three in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 244 DL Anniversary from 1977. Volvo released this model to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary. Based on the 244DL, the Anniversary Car was finished in metallic silver with a black and gold band around the waistline. Around 50 were sold in ten different countries, taking the total number produced up to 500. Wiking is now offering the first release of their newly tooled Volvo Amazon 4-door model. This Volvo Amazon represents a model from 1957. Volvo produced the Amazon from 1957 to 1970. This new H0 (1:87) model comes painted in black (Volvo color code 19) and is fitted with a red interior (trim code 15-113). This Amazon comes otherwise with the very sames features which Wiking has already fitted to the previously released Volvo Amazon 2-door model. This new model is available under item number 022802 (EAN code 4006190228022). I'm still waiting for my models to arrive. I will write an in-depth article as soon as I have 'em. Quote from Brekina's website: The polished four-door Swede with red upholstered seats Matchbox has recently released the second color of the Volvo V60. The very first color (painted blue) of this 3" model had been released in the Summer of 2016. The new release comes painted in a nice camel metallic. The paint suits the model pretty well even if it is darker as Volvo's actual paint scheme" luminous sand metallic" (719). The main regret in my opinion is that it is pretty hard to find this model in stores here in Europe. Yeah I do know there is still the web. But who wants to pay $ 14-18 for shipping a 3-inch model to Europe? Bare in mind that it is sold for couple bucks in the States. Courtesy of lamleygroup.com
The number seventy-two in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo Amazon 122S Rally from 1965. This scale model featuring the number 65 is a 1:43 replica of the Volvo Amazon which can be visited at the Volvo Museum in Göteborg, Sweden. Most of you being scale model enthusiast have probably followed the news from this years toy show in Nürnberg (Germany).
Well my article is not yet finished but I can offer you a tiny teaser. Most companies do offer each year a scale model from their program range as a limited edition to their clients visiting them ant their booths in Nürnberg. Most wear the logo of the Nürnberg toy show and feature especially decorated boxes and/or dedicated and labeled bases. This year is of course no exception but we rarely see a Volvo among those limited editions. Wiking however has produced this year the Volvo PV544 in H0 (1:87) in a limited edition of only 750 units for this years toy fair. The Volvo PV544 i painted white and features a red interior. The car has the toy fair logo printed in red on both sides doors and the window box has a red base with the text "Limited Edition" written next to the logo. It is not the fanciest model around but some people do love to collect those limited editions. And sometimes prices can go up in time for these models. But I wouldn't bet on it. Up to you if you think that this is a must-have. Editions Atlas has just released a new model car collection called the 'Ambulance Collection'. It will feature 1:43 diecast models of various ambulance models. This new collection will feature among other a couple Volvo models. Editions Atlas will release this collection in the five following countries: Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands. The first model in Scandinavia (SE, DK, NO & FI) will be a Volvo 145 Express Ambulance. The first model in the Netherlands will be the Volvo 260 Ambulance which many of you already know from the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas where is has been released as number fifty-six. You will find a short description as well as a short timeline for that specific model at the end of this article. As usually for these collections which Editions Atlas are offering by subscription, the first three models will be rather cheap and each will come with a small gift. I don't know how ave no many models have already been foreseen and I have no clue how large this Ambulance Collection might become at the end. All 1:43 scale models are made out of diecast and are produced by Ixo for Editions Atlas. Volvo 260 ambulance (NL) - background info's and photos provided by the Dutch website www.ambulancearchief.nl This was the first Volvo ambulance of this type to be used in The Netherlands. It was purchased by the private local ambulance service Westerbaan in Dedemsvaart (NL) in full Swedish color including the black bonnet. The bonnet (hood) was later painted white. In 1986 it was sold to the Volvo-factory (later NedCar) in Born (NL) for their emergency service. Photo courtesy of www.ambulancearchief.nl
