NEW OLD MODELS FOUND |
The tag says it all. It's all about older models which I have discovered only recently. |
I found this plastic Volvo 760 R/C model one October day back in 2011. It has been produced in Japan by Taiyo and distributed by the company Brio Scanditoys. The scale of this model is 1:24. I do know that Brio Scanditoys released a lot of Volvo scale models in the past but so far I was not able to find correct and detailed information’s about their product range. I will post more as soon as I have found more about the Japanese company Taiyo Kogyo Corporation. Courtesy of Stefan UPDATE : A Volvo fan and model collector from Poland contacted me recently and left the following comment : I've got the same one but in a silver metallic finish. Bought personally by me on a sunny day in Göteborg, Sweden August 1984. I remember the price - 240 SEK. In nineties donated to younger brother, preserved good shape. Inspected yesterday in his room. Beautiful piece in history of toys engineering. After thirty years box condition is poor, but the car is OK and still racing fast :D Volvo 760 GLE by TAIYO - The pioneer of drifting! He was very kind and took a couple of excellent photos of his silver metallic Volvo 760 R/C model. Courtesy of Michael K.

I have recently found on a Spanish website a Volvo 343 DL by Hot Wheels in a color I had never seen before. The 1:43 scale model was black with a black interior. The diecast model of the Volvo 343 DL has not only been offered under the Hot Wheels label. You can find it also as a Mebetoys or Tonka model. All these labels belong to the Mattel group. This Volvo 343 DL has always been offered under item number A-130. The website Grantoros.com is providing a huge amount of interesting and very detailed info's regarding models by Mebetoys. But there is not much regarding the Volvo 343 model. Here is a short list of the various versions and liveries I was so far able to find :
Don’t hesitate to send me your comments, photos, catalogs or anything else you may have or know about these Volvo 343 models. Every tiny info can help solving this puzzle. You can contact me here. Update : A friendly Dutch collector just send me the photo on your left. It shows the same Volvo 343 DL but distributed under the name littletois. This label was used by the still existing Dutch company Hema. The model offered by Hema was also made by Hot Wheels. The 1:43 scale model is the same and has the same features as the ones released directly by Hot Wheels. The packaging is less sophisticated and consists just of a carboard base with a blister as top. A Dutch Volvo fan just found out that Motorart has produced the Volvo S80L at least in two different colors back in 2011. There has not only been a black model ( see here ) but also a second version painted oyster gray. Both versions are 1:18 scale models made of diecast. Both models reproduce Volvo's top of the line model S80L which is fitted in China with the T6 engine and all wheel drive. Motorart had revealed to a Dutch customer that the black one was sold out and that they do not plan to produce another run. But they never told that person that they produced the Volvo S80L in a second color. It is pretty hard to find any details or a copy of this scale model on the internet. I'm sorry but I can't help you to provide you with a model. I have no clue were you could get one. Source & copyright : kchen42.blog.sohu.com
I was able to buy last month two Volvo 760 scale models from a company called Summer. Both 3'' models are mint but don't have any longer their original box/blister. I knew for many years that Summer did the Volvo 164 and the Volvo 760 in various different liveries. But this was my first opportunity to buy mint models for a fair price. They are far away from being exact to scale replicas but they were missing in my small collection of 3'' Volvo 760 scale models. And these two models were also two versions I had never seen before. Both models are with the exception of the paint perfectly identical : the bodies consist of diecast and the bottom-plate is a chromed and shiny piece of plastic. The front seats are part of the bottom-plate. There are no rear seats. The glazing covers just the windshield and the rear window. These Volvo's have no opening parts. The only working parts are the plastic wheels fixed on a piece of steel wire. Both models have wheels with four dots. Another usual wheel type had five dots. But a few other variations seem to exist too. Made in China is written on the bottom-plates. The silver-gray colored model has the number 8 stamped in the interior on the bottom-plate. The blue one has the number 6 stamped in the interior on the bottom-plate. Both models have a pretty clean and proper paint. Both cars feature a geometric design on their hoods. The number 1 is always written in light blue on the top of the hood and you will find beneath four adjacent circles. I had already listed four other versions in my database. But I was able to find a couple more versions. These are :
Just let me know if you have eventually other versions in your collection.
A Taiwanese company called GS Racing has released a few years ago a Volvo S40 model. The 1:10 scale model was offered as rtr version with chassis and as clear and painted body. All versions were released in the GS Racing - Vision range.
It seems that silver and blue painted bodies were also available as you can see on the following photos. But I haven't found much infos about further versions. Any help is warmly welcome.
Update :
I was told today by the Polish dealer and distributor modele.sklep.pl that GS Racing is updating their product lines as well as reorganizing the company. In 2014, we may expect new cars, new TX/RX systems, new engines, new bodies, new updated chassis of each car’s class, and also – the very new website.
The Swiss wholesaler Waldmeier was offering six years ago a Volvo S80 in a special decorated window box. The box is labeled ‘Swiss Collection’ and contains a Volvo S80 decorated as a Swiss Police car. The 1:43 scale diecast model is made by Cararama. The model is available under item # 1022.20076. The white Volvo S80 features a gray and beige interior. The car has a correct Swiss numberplate : VD-24189. This model has previously also been offered in Oliex and Hongwell 'Junior Rescue' boxes.
This Volvo C30 is a Code 2 model made for Disney by Matchbox. The set was offered as Matchbox Mickey Mouse Clubhouse 5-pack back in 2011. On the left side of the white car there’s a decal ‘Best Friend’ and a picture of Minnie Mouse. On the right side of the car there’s a decal ‘Look at that sparkle’. The interior and base of the model are violet. Product number is MB711 and the scale of the model is 1:61. The car has been made in Thailand. The 5-car Disney gift set includes furthermore :
But I have no proof so far that these models really exist.
More versions are listed on the backside of the packaging :
