The tag says it all. It's all about older models which I have discovered only recently. |
I have just discovered another 10-car set by Matchbox featuring a Volvo. This set is labeled 'Showroom Models' and has been released in January 2010. This set comes with a medium blue painted Volvo P1800. The set features nine regular cars and as bonus an exclusive vehicle which is a yellow Chevy Camaro SS-396. These 3'' models have been made in Thailand. A good source for anything regarding the Volvo P1800 by Matchbox is this Wiki page.

I have just discovered this 10-car set featuring a Volvo XC90. This set by Matchbox is labeled 'Showroom Models' and has been released in January 2010. This golden brown paint scheme is new for this set. It has not been available before. The interior of the model is black. The 3'' model has a diecast body and a plastic bottom plate. It has been made in Thailand. A good source for anything regarding the Volvo XC90 by Matchbox is this Wiki page.
I have recently found this Volvo 760 in the States. It is a merchandising model for the soft-drink company Pepsi. The white painted 3'' model is made of diecast and features a plastic bottom-plate. The windows are gold-brown and the model is lacking an interior. The model is a very basic model and does not have many details. It is without a doubt a low budget and low quality toy. The Volvo 760 has been offered in the PEPSI 'Team Racer' product line nearly twenty years ago. Similar 3'' models on blisters and decorated for Pepsi have also been offered back in 1997 in a product line called PEPSI 'Wheeler Series'. Other series back in 1996 and 1997 were called among others 'Golden Wheel', 'Truck & Trailer', 'Racing Team', 'Tractor Trailer', 'Super Hauler', Gift Set'. The Hong Kong based company Golden Wheel Die Cast Factory Ltd. has produced this Volvo 760. The various models at the bottom of this post have also been produced by this company. The Volvo is 65 mm long, 25 mm wide and 21 mm tall. This results in an approximative scale of 1:73. Website : goldenwheeldiecast.com Quote from a description found on the website of 'The Hong Kong Trade Development Council' (HKTDC) : Golden Wheel is a manufacturer and established since 1989. We are principally engaging in marketing and production of die-cast toys including design, tooling, production and sales. We are proud to present our online catalogue, a collectibles from our own brand name "Golden Wheel" a under permission of copyright such as "Pepi-cola", "Ford", "Fedex", "Usps", "Pennzoil", "Man", "Mercedes Benz" etc. Here is another quote from a article written by Tony Henderson :
More PEPSI 'Team Racer' models : I have found Volvo 244DL which has been made by Yatming. The 3'' diecast model has been marketed under the label Fastwheel. The model is packed in a blister on cardboard allowing to show the working front side doors in their open position. Unfortunately the driver door did not want to open even after some violent shaking. The Volvo 244DL is the usual and rather moderately detailed model normally offered by Yatming. The orange painted car features a flesh colored interior. The body and the baseplate are made of of diecast. The item number is No. 1058. I do not know if the car has been sold in other paint schemes together with this packaging. Playart produced this Volvo 244DL in many different colors but without opening doors prior to Yatming. Click here for more infos. The backside of the cardboard features a list of 13 available models together with their item umber :
Here is yet another packaging version of the Volvo 144 Taxi that has been distributed in partwork collections by several companies all over Europe. I will show you here the Bulgarian, Polish and Greek version. The same Volvo 144 Taxi model has been available in France, Spain, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Bulgaria and also Greece :
Please let me know if you are aware if it has been offered in other countries. The models are theoretically everywhere the same. But in the end the released versions for each country differ in some details. The most noticeable is clearly the various packaging versions and of course the folder coming with each model. But there is more. You can detect many tiny differences when checking in deep the various details and overall finish.

Differences between the models released in Bulgaria and Greece : Just have a look at the following three photos to see some obvious differences between the Volvo 14 released in Bulgaria and the one released in Greece :
The Swiss wholesaler Waldmeier was offering six years ago a Volvo S80 in a special decorated window box. The box is labeled ‘Swiss Collection’ and contains a Volvo S80 decorated as a Swiss Police car. The 1:43 scale diecast model is made by Cararama. The model is available under item # 1022.20076. The white Volvo S80 features a gray and beige interior. The car has a correct Swiss numberplate : VD-24189. This model has previously also been offered in Oliex and Hongwell 'Junior Rescue' boxes.
This seems to be a rather rare model of a Volvo 245. This one has been made in Brazil by a company called Kiko. They used the Majorette molds for the production of this Volvo. This mens that this 3'' scale model is in fact exactly the same as the ones offered by Majorette. There are however small differences which do not concern the model in itself. Photos used with permission. This model has been sold today on eBay for 114.36 € ( 149.53 $ ). A seller from Israel is offering several Volvo scale models representing Police cars from Russia and Belarus. The 1:43 scale models are apparently custom made in the Ukraine. The seller did not want to share more infos and did not want to reveal more details about the various versions. The Police cars are based on redecorated models by Minichamps and Motorart. The level of details and the quality of the decals are of a very high standard. This is also reflected in the price tag. The average cost for a model are 80 €. A guy in the UK is offering Code 3 Police models in various scales. He is mainly doing those colorful Police cars from the UK. All the scale models are made in very small numbers. But he is also offering one-offs of a specific model if you desire one like that. He uses self made printed decals as well as correct detail parts from several small suppliers like 2D Models. All his models are offered under the label T.O.T. Models. I will try to present you here all the Volvo models he has done so far in 1:43 and 1:18 scale. 1:43 models : 1:18 models :
