NEW RELEASES |
You will be able to find here news about the latest Volvo scale models which have been announced or just been released. |
Herpa has just announced that they will release the Volvo P1800 in the new color wine red metallic in January 2014. This will be the third color variant for the P1800. The H0 scale model will be available under item number 034906-002. The official retail price is 10.50 €. I'm however disappointed to see that Herpa has chosen to offer their scale model in a red paintwork which has never been offered by Volvo. The Volvo P1800 was available in two different red shades. The paint codes were red # 70 and red # 46. The tint offered by Herpa doesn't come close to one of these two red shades. The model will probably be available in December 2013. You can already preorder your copy under item number PRD229. The retail price will be 31 €. The scale model reflects the phase II version which was commercialized between 2000 and 2004. It is offered in a silver gray metallic paint and features a black interior. The photos of the scale model are underexposed and do show the model in this rather dark paint. The 1:43 scale model does come in the correct shade. This Volvo V40 is the first new form offered since Editions Atlas has decided to enlarge the Volvo Collection to a total of 60 models. Many more new castings will follow next year.
The number thirty-two in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is a Volvo P1800 ES. This model represents the car which was owned and driven by Prince Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden. On 15 September 1973, Carl Gustaf became King of Sweden upon the death of his grandfather, King Gustaf VI Adolf. The car is painted gold metallic and features a brown interior. The model has the correct license plate A73319. You can see a photo of the original vehicle papers on this great website. Most of you will say : oh now not another P1800 ES. Editions Atlas has released this model since they have decided to enlarge the collection to 60 models. They have to bridge the gap which is needed to design, produce and assemble new castings for the upcoming new models.

Their first project will be the Volvo VESC. This model has never been offered before. The Volvo VESC – Volvo Experimental Safety Car was a safety vehicle which was built back in 1972. Many features of that car served as base for the 200 series. The 1:43 scale model will be made of resin. It is not yet clear if the model will be offered as kit, as rtr model or in both versions. My guess is that a small run of rtr models will be offered. Prices are not yet given since this depends largely on the final number of parts needed for making this model. Personal note : I can tell from my personal experience that the kits offered by Griffin Models are of a remarkable quality. I received last year a kit of the Saab 900 Enduro "Steroid Poppin' Swede" and I was positively surprised. We can expect a highly detailed model. Background infos regarding the Volvo VESC :
