Volvo 264 Ambulance by Editions Atlas

The number fifty-six in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 264 Ambulance built by Ringborg. The Swedish company from Norrköping built this model from 1982 to 1985. Volvo offered also ambulance models in the 1970's and 1980's based on a regular 245 estate featuring an higher roof. The here shown scale model represents a later design which features a complete coach-built rear body. The other Swedish coach-builder company Nillson (Yngve Nilsson Karosseri) built nearly identical ambulance models. This specific ambulance was available with either a six-cylinder petrol (B28E) or a six-cylinder diesel (D26) engine. These ambulances were all built on Volvo 260 chassis even if they have all been offered with Volvo 240 badges. The official VIN numbers prove this.

This is a bit beside the point of a nice scale model, but since it came up: What do we know about the chassis numbers? Specifically which of "these ambulances" were built on 260 chassis? Not all of the later ones. There were quite a few YV1244688... up until 1987, and I expect most or even all of them were ambulances.

Hooray! After almost three months of waiting, my client site says that this would be the next model that I receive. But am I the only one which the price has risen to 23,90 € ??
This 1,95 € increase in the price does not bother me at all, but hopefully Editions Atlas deliveries will work better this time :-)

It is not yet possible to buy or order this specific model in a model shop or web shop.
It is so far only available in that specific livery as part of the Volvo Collection by Editions atlas. This means that you have to subscribe to that collection which is unfortunately available in a limited number of European countries. You will find most answers and info's on this page: http://www.minivolvo.lu/volvocollection.html

But you may want to wait another year or so 'til Ixo will release this Volvo model in their regular model program.

Having received this model I woder: Is it a 264? The enclosed folder says 264 and also the text in it. But the display stand says 240 (as do the invoice), and the reg.number is for a 240. Just to mention a few odd things....
