NEW OLD MODELS FOUND |
The tag says it all. It's all about older models which I have discovered only recently. |
This is a one-off model of a Volvo TP21 Sugga. This 1:15 scale model was built in 2011. It was a gift to a big TP21 fan by his wife. Everything on the model is scratch built. It took 7 months to make this model. Several hundred hours have been spent on this project. The modeler had no accurate plans of the TP21. He got lots of photos and measurements from a real Sugga which helped much to start the project. He spend hours looking at photos and guessing the shape and contours of the vehicle. He then draw a sketch of the side view, then the front and rear. He spend hours comparing every part to the photos. He was satisfied with the result as soon as it looked right and the model matched the photographs. The hardest piece was the working cycle rack at the rear. It drove him crazy getting it just right and working. The model consists of approximatively 70% wood ( hardwood and balsa wood ) and 30% metal. Balsa wood was used for the contoured shape at the rear of the vehicle, the boot and rear window area. The doors were made of hardwood and covered with tin from litho plates as used in the printing trade. This gives them a metallic finish. The front radiator grill was made with litho plate tin, with two rods running through them horizontally. The front mudguards were made of hardwood covered with tin. The cycle rack was made with brass strips and joined together with super glue. The wheels were made with balsa wood and the treads were pressed in with a shaped piece of lead. It will remain a one-off model. The modeler really doesn't intend to produce a small batch in the future. He wrote me : 'I would end up in a mental home with the stress!' This Volvo Amazon by Minichamps was apparently given to Volvo salesmen in Germany who attempted a training meeting for Volvo car insurances. Only 750 units of this 1:43 scale model were produced and labeled for the event. The color is graphite metallic combined with a red interior. This 4-door Amazon was also released as a regular model in 2009 by Minichamps under item number 430171061.
This Volvo S80 obviously used for a crash test is a one off model. It was modeled based on existing photos and videos. A 1:43 scale model from Cararama was used to create this unique and unusual model. Only one car has been produced by a Polish modeler. The car was sold to a Dutch Volvo fan. Personal note : I'm aware that this a one off model but I think it is worse to be presented.
I presented yesterday the various Volvo C70 versions which Bburago has released so far. Bburago has produced the Volvo XC90 in several versions with even more tiny differences. Most of these variations are only visible after having a really close look at these 1:43 scale models. The photos will give a short overview of the models and their details. The regular models have also been available in two different window boxes. The first being the standard Bburago box and the second is a promotional box for Volvo. Maisto has as did many other manufacturers of 3'' models offered several cars in multi car packs. Here is an example of a golden Volvo 760 GLE together with a Mercedes Class S in this blister on cardboard. Maisto sold this and 9 other sets under the label 'Motor Works'. The name of these sets changed however over the time. Each set consisted of different cars. A picture on the rear of the cardboard shows all the available sets. This set was released around 1996 under item # 15080.
This table is showing the available sets :
Many many models of Volvo scale models by Stahlberg have been offered in the past. There has been however a few models that were produced by Stahlberg for the British toy distributer O.G. Plasto. I have discovered only recently these plastic models which were offered in special colorful decorated cardboard boxes for the British market. The following pictures show a red Volvo 245 GL. It was offered as N° 3 out of 10 different models. The 'collection' featured only Volvo and Saab Models. All models are made of plastic and there scale is 1:20.
