Volvo 760 made by Majorette for TC Toys

A fellow Volvo fan and collector made me recently aware of this Volvo 760 GLE scale model. The 3'' model was made for the British label TC Toys by Majorette. The Volvo 760 is Majorette's standard model which consists of a diecast body and a plastic bottom-plate. The model is made in France. TC Toys has printed their own product number on the left bottom corner of the cardboard. The item number is 34 06279. TC Toys stands for Thomas Cork SM Ltd. It seems that the company started doing business back in 1984. It had his headquarter in Nottingham, Great Britain. The company had been dissolved in November 1995.

UPDATED - Volvo 245 by Kiko - Majorette - Manaus made

This seems to be a rather rare model of a Volvo 245. This one has been made in Brazil by a company called Kiko. They used the Majorette molds for the production of this Volvo. This mens that this 3'' scale model is in fact exactly the same as the ones offered by Majorette. There are however small differences which do not concern the model in itself.

They are :

typical Kiko blister with white cardboard base
painted body with unusual white bottom-plate
a small plastic pin placed in the two bottom holes and wearing the logo 'FAB ZF MANAUS' : the goal was to hide the 'made in France' logo

This model has been sold today on eBay for 114.36 € ( 149.53 $ ).

Production in Brazil

In the late 1970s to early 1980s, the Brazilian toy firms of Inbrima and Kiko manufactured Majorette models under license. By producing locally, Majorette benefited by avoiding duties on imported French models. Brazil had established the Free Economic Zone of Manaus (in Portuguese, Zona Franca de Manaus) to boost regional development in the Amazon.

Inbrima models had a "black label" attached to the base identifying the place of manufacture, while the majority of models had the later "FAB ZF MANAUS” white plastic tab affixed to the base, indicating that the models had been made in that city.

Around the same period, Mr. A. Kikoler and his toy brand name Kiko also reached an agreement with Majorette to produce approximately 15 Majorette models in Brazil (at a factory in Rio de Janerio), again, as with Inbrima, with local color schemes and liveries unique to Brazil. Kiko models included the Datsun 240Z, the VW T2, Citroen Dyane, and the Renault 4. On the bases, ‘Kiko Majorette’ was cast over the original Majorette name, with ‘made in Brazil’ in Portuguese.

Volvo 760 by Majorette

I recently came across this set by Majorette featuring a Volvo 760 GLE and a Peugeot 205 GTi. The box not only contains the scale models but also a device called Sprinter. It allows you to whiz the cars. You can even clip it to your belt so you can play with it when you are on the road. I haven't opened the package since it is still in near mint condition. The cardboard will get damaged once opened. This set was available under item number Ref. 03446010. I presume that it is dating back to the mid eighties.

Volvo 760 sets by Majorette

I have been able to find once again a few more sets by Majorette featuring a Volvo 760 and a horse trailer. The newly found sets are :

-   green metallic with red interior

-   blue with black interior

-   silver metallic with red interior

-   silver metallic with red interior

Volvo 245 set by Majorette

Here is a second set by Majorette which I was able to find featuring a Volvo 245 and a second car. This set consist of a light green Volvo 245 with black interior and a dark green Simca 1308 with light cream interior. The set is packed in a blister on cardboard.

Volvo 245 DL by Majorette

This is the first time that I saw a Volvo 245DL by Majorette in a multi pack.

The set is composed of the 3 following models :

- Volvo 245 DL
- Citroen CX
- Mercedes 350 SL

copper metallic
silver grey
blue metallic

Every model is hold in a small blister fixed on a large rectangular cardboard.

I do not much more about this set. I still ignore the item number and when it has been released.

I presume however that it must be an older set. The Volvo seems to be the one with the non-opening tailgate and with the green tinted glass. These are specifications from the first run in the 1970's.

Volvo 760 by Majorette

And yet another episode of the Volvo 760 story by Majorette.
The following two photos are showing two liveries that are not yet featured in the database.

The first one is the silver metallic Volvo 760 on the bottom of the left photo.
The red trim and the lettering differ from the two models above.

The second one is the orange car on the photo on your right.
It is the first time that I see such a color.

And there is also a light tint difference on the two green models.

And finally you can see two different of tires on these Volvo 760 scale models.

Volvo 245 Estate & bike trailer by Majorette

This is certainly a rare find. This batch consists of 3 slightly different versions of the same livery. The batch ( 5 models in total ) is currently being offered for sale on the web.

Volvo 245 Estate 'Tours de France - Officiels' & trailer with two race bikes :

Here is a short summary explaining the small differences between these models :

1	white with red interior 'Tour de France' logo on the hood 'Officiels' written on the side doors with opening tailgate white single axle trailer made out of metal two plastic racing bikes : a red & a yellow one

2	white with red interior 'Tour de France' logo on the hood 'Officiels' written on the side doors 'Paris' lettered on the roof large yellow & small black line on the roof with opening tailgate gray single axle trailer made out of metal two plastic racing bikes : a red & a yellow one

3	white with red interior 'Tour de France' logo on the hood nothing written on the side doors 'Paris' lettered on the roof large yellow & small black line on the roof with opening tailgate gray single axle trailer made out of metal two plastic racing bikes : a red & a yellow one

There are even 5 different versions if you take into account the way the colored bikes are placed on the trailers.

Each set is however packed in the same type of blister.

Volvo 245 Estate & bike trailer by Majorette

I have discovered once again a new set made by Majorette. The duo consist of a Volvo 245 Estate and a single axle trailer with two bikes.
The Volvo 245 Estate is painted copper metallic and lettered for 'touring club de France'. The single axle trailer is made out of gray metal and holds two racing bikes. The bikes are made out of plastic and are red and yellow.
The set is packed in a blister which features a white plastic base.

Volvo 760 by Majorette

I am curious to find out how many versions Majorette released from the Volvo 760. Finding the different colors was an easy task. But it is more difficult to get an overview of every double-pack and every packaging version that has been released.

The last one that turned up is a green Volvo 760 packed in a blister showing an advertisement for the WWF ( World Wildlife Fund ). The blister calls to donate money in order to protect endangered animals. You were also able to win several prizes. The first prize was a trip to Florida.

This release was only offered in France and issued in collaboration with WWW France. The deadline for the game was September 1988 so I suppose this set has only been offered that year.

I would be very pleased if you could contact me if you are aware of other versions.
