NEW OLD MODELS FOUND |
The tag says it all. It's all about older models which I have discovered only recently. |
I found this plastic Volvo 760 R/C model one October day back in 2011. It has been produced in Japan by Taiyo and distributed by the company Brio Scanditoys. The scale of this model is 1:24. I do know that Brio Scanditoys released a lot of Volvo scale models in the past but so far I was not able to find correct and detailed information’s about their product range. I will post more as soon as I have found more about the Japanese company Taiyo Kogyo Corporation. Courtesy of Stefan UPDATE : A Volvo fan and model collector from Poland contacted me recently and left the following comment : I've got the same one but in a silver metallic finish. Bought personally by me on a sunny day in Göteborg, Sweden August 1984. I remember the price - 240 SEK. In nineties donated to younger brother, preserved good shape. Inspected yesterday in his room. Beautiful piece in history of toys engineering. After thirty years box condition is poor, but the car is OK and still racing fast :D Volvo 760 GLE by TAIYO - The pioneer of drifting! He was very kind and took a couple of excellent photos of his silver metallic Volvo 760 R/C model. Courtesy of Michael K.

I just came across this Volvo 144. It is for me the first time that I see this tinplate model with its original window cardboard box. This model has been made in the 1960's by Bandai in Japan. The car is 20 cm long and has a detailed and colorful tin printed interior. This model does have a friction drive. But these models also existed as battery operated cars functioning with a cable attached remote control. Courtesy of vectis.co.uk The Japanese company ABC Hobby has once released a Volvo 855 body. The 1:24 scale clear body fits the R/C chassis as offered by Tamiya. The Volvo 855 bodywork is 190mm long, 82mm width and the wheelbase measures 108mm. It was available under item number 68160. I wasn't able to find much info about the company ABC Hobby. Don't hesitate to contact me if you do have any infos, brochures, catalogs, etc... Photos used with permission.
_This is a rather rare Volvo P1900 produced from 1956 to 1958 by Japanese toy maker KS. This is the 'Fire Chief' version which is quite scarce. The 1:24 tinplate model has a working round beacon on the roof and a detailed tin printed interior. The battery operated model works with a remote control connected by cable. The steering wheel is missing on this example. Photos used with permission.
This model is already listed in the database which means that it is not the first time that I have seen one like this. But what does this make more special is the the fact that the Polis version was only sold in Sweden. And this one comes even with the original box which is a indeed a rare occasion to get one of these tinplate models. But don't expect it to be a bargain. Photos used with permission.
