The tag says it all. It's all about older models which I have discovered only recently. |
Quote from a 1978 Volvo catalog : A standard taxi was too small and a bus would have been too expensive.

AHC has provided several Volvo 850 scale models to Volvo for their official merchandising department. The models were the same then the ones offered directly by AHC but they featured a special decorated blue box wearing the Volvo lettering. A former Volvo employee from France send me these photos of this Volvo 854 GLT from 1992. It is painted a light blue metallic. This paint scheme was missing so far in my database. Only a black and a white version was mentioned so far in the database. Please let me know if you have eventually a different color in your collection. The miniature which has been made in Spain has AHC's item # 486 marked on the bottom plate. Volvo's official part number was however # 280958.
A Swiss model maker named Silvio Righetti has produced back in 1986 a Volvo P1800ES model. He produced a total of only 14 units. They were available as r-t-r models and painted in the following colors :
This P1800ES is based on the model once produced by Corgi Toys from Great Britain. Mr Righetti changed the front grille and bumpers and added the side trims to the late P1800 ones (but you can see the upward sweep of the Corgis too). He changed the roof and the rear side, used smaller but deeper wheels with rubber tires, added side mirrors and fitted the interior with a left hand side steering wheel and a gear switch lever. The scale of the models is 1:46. The red cardboard boxes for these rare cars were self drawn and glued together by Silvio Righetti. Every box informs about the color and the number of the car packed inside. 3 out the 4 different produced colors :
I was not able to find out much about this set. It contains two 3'' inch cars and a car wash station. The special thing about it is that both cars change their color depending on the temperature of the water. The cars are a Volvo 760 GLE and a BMW M1. Both diecast models have a plastic base and were made in China by M.C.Toy. The Volvo is violet and turns to light blue once washed with warm water. And the BMW M1 switches from a dark grayish-green to beige. I will let the photos tell the story. But I can assure you that my nephews had much fun when they first tried it out. Corgi has offered many different gift sets. A very few featured Volvo models. Here is in fact the second set I have found so far with a Volvo P1800. The Corgi gift set # 20 contains a Scammell Handyman tri-deck car transporter and six different cars. All the cars have Whizzwheels. The truck is painted in a nice blue over white over orange color scheme. Every wheel of the truck and the trailer have detailed cast hubs. The gift set includes a Scammell Cab car transporter and the following six cars :
This hard to find Corgi GS20 car transporter gift set was sold for :

I recently came across this set by Majorette featuring a Volvo 760 GLE and a Peugeot 205 GTi. The box not only contains the scale models but also a device called Sprinter. It allows you to whiz the cars. You can even clip it to your belt so you can play with it when you are on the road. I haven't opened the package since it is still in near mint condition. The cardboard will get damaged once opened. This set was available under item number Ref. 03446010. I presume that it is dating back to the mid eighties.
Here you can watch two commercials broadcasted on the French TV back in 1987 :
