Here is probably a pre-production model of a Volvo 740/760 by Corgi. Such resin models were often used to see the model before it went into production in a smaller scale. As you can see this model is not complete. The front side doors, the hood, the bumpers, lights and trim are all missing. This example has also a lot of small air bubbles in the body which tells us that the resin was not the best. The roof has also wrapped but this is quite normal with such large and thin resin surfaces. Another striking detail is the unsymmetrical air intake grille between the hood and the front window (please see photo below ). But to my surprise the 1:36 scale models from the normal production have this error too. I have to admit that I never paid attention to this detail before. This resin models measures 250x102.9x65.5 mm which results in a approximate scale of 1:19. Click here for pictures of a 1:36 scale Volvo 760 by Corgi.
Here is a prototype of a Volvo 265 which Siku probably developed between 1975 and 1979. It is unclear why the scale model never saw production. It is probable that it ended with a few other prototypes in the hands of a former Siku worker. They were offered for sale several years ago and the person behind oldtoycars.de was able to buy them.
This model is a pattern that has been produced to detect possible errors before it will go into production. The model is 2.5 bigger than the final model. Two models are so far known : this one and an identical one made of beige resin. These pattern are made of solid resin. The produced model is the Tyco slotcar that has been released for the first time in 1996. Click here to see the one in beige.
