The tag says it all. It's all about older models which I have discovered only recently. |
I came across this tiny and abstract Volvo 244 while I was searching scale people for my other hobby. This Volvo model is offered by the US company Microform Models Inc. They have a large offer of scale model supplies for Architects, Engineers, scale model builders, Interior & Set Designers, doll house makers and toy train hobbyists. This Volvo is made of metal and the scale is 1:126 ( 3/32" ). You can watch and download their entire catalog here ( 61 MB ). Source & copyright : .microformmodels.com

I have found Volvo 244DL which has been made by Yatming. The 3'' diecast model has been marketed under the label Fastwheel. The model is packed in a blister on cardboard allowing to show the working front side doors in their open position. Unfortunately the driver door did not want to open even after some violent shaking. The Volvo 244DL is the usual and rather moderately detailed model normally offered by Yatming. The orange painted car features a flesh colored interior. The body and the baseplate are made of of diecast. The item number is No. 1058. I do not know if the car has been sold in other paint schemes together with this packaging. Playart produced this Volvo 244DL in many different colors but without opening doors prior to Yatming. Click here for more infos. The backside of the cardboard features a list of 13 available models together with their item umber :
This seems to be a rather rare model of a Volvo 245. This one has been made in Brazil by a company called Kiko. They used the Majorette molds for the production of this Volvo. This mens that this 3'' scale model is in fact exactly the same as the ones offered by Majorette. There are however small differences which do not concern the model in itself. Photos used with permission. This model has been sold today on eBay for 114.36 € ( 149.53 $ ). Quote from a 1978 Volvo catalog : A standard taxi was too small and a bus would have been too expensive. Many many models of Volvo scale models by Stahlberg have been offered in the past. There has been however a few models that were produced by Stahlberg for the British toy distributer O.G. Plasto. I have discovered only recently these plastic models which were offered in special colorful decorated cardboard boxes for the British market. The following pictures show a red Volvo 245 GL. It was offered as N° 3 out of 10 different models. The 'collection' featured only Volvo and Saab Models. All models are made of plastic and there scale is 1:20.
You are looking here at a side by side of Volvo 244 DL scale models by Playart. This overview gives a colorful view of the various color shades once produced.
This model has also been produced in brown, orange, red metallic, lime and white. This 244 DL has also been manufactured without opening doors. It has later been produced by Yatming featuring opening doors.
Here is a couple of a rather strange Volvo's. These double-end Volvo 264 have been assembled by using each time two 1:43 scale models by Norev as base. They have been cut in half and assembled and repainted. The blue-light on top of the roof centre is certainly helping to hide the gap between both bodies. The yellow one has even the Volvo logo printed on each hood. These funny models have been built by R&M Models. They are certainly not must haves. But I'm sure that they will put a smile on every face when they show up in someones showcase.
Here is a prototype of a Volvo 265 which Siku probably developed between 1975 and 1979. It is unclear why the scale model never saw production. It is probable that it ended with a few other prototypes in the hands of a former Siku worker. They were offered for sale several years ago and the person behind oldtoycars.de was able to buy them.
I have found this week another Matchbox SuperKings version. This set labeled 'Super Value Pack' includes a red 1:36 scale Volvo 245 DL and a green Monteverdi Hai from Matchbox's 1-75 model range. Matchbox added the Monteverdi for free as a bonus model. The right-hand-drive Volvo 245 DL has a orange-yellow interior. Other features of the car are the usual opening front side doors, the opening tailgate and the large plastic tow bar. This near mint set has been sold today for only 21 €.
