NEW OLD MODELS FOUND |
The tag says it all. It's all about older models which I have discovered only recently. |
I have recently found this Volvo 760 in the States. It is a merchandising model for the soft-drink company Pepsi. The white painted 3'' model is made of diecast and features a plastic bottom-plate. The windows are gold-brown and the model is lacking an interior. The model is a very basic model and does not have many details. It is without a doubt a low budget and low quality toy. The Volvo 760 has been offered in the PEPSI 'Team Racer' product line nearly twenty years ago. Similar 3'' models on blisters and decorated for Pepsi have also been offered back in 1997 in a product line called PEPSI 'Wheeler Series'. Other series back in 1996 and 1997 were called among others 'Golden Wheel', 'Truck & Trailer', 'Racing Team', 'Tractor Trailer', 'Super Hauler', Gift Set'. The Hong Kong based company Golden Wheel Die Cast Factory Ltd. has produced this Volvo 760. The various models at the bottom of this post have also been produced by this company. The Volvo is 65 mm long, 25 mm wide and 21 mm tall. This results in an approximative scale of 1:73. Website : goldenwheeldiecast.com Quote from a description found on the website of 'The Hong Kong Trade Development Council' (HKTDC) : Golden Wheel is a manufacturer and established since 1989. We are principally engaging in marketing and production of die-cast toys including design, tooling, production and sales. We are proud to present our online catalogue, a collectibles from our own brand name "Golden Wheel" a under permission of copyright such as "Pepi-cola", "Ford", "Fedex", "Usps", "Pennzoil", "Man", "Mercedes Benz" etc. Here is another quote from a article written by Tony Henderson :

I have a soft spot for these really ugly volvo models. Especially the 760 fell victim to really bad ripoffs. I have a lot of them in my display case. They are so bad you just got to feel sorry for them. :-)

Yes Summer is one of them. Although I believe the 164E by Summer is quite desireable in mint condition.
