NEW RELEASES |
You will be able to find here news about the latest Volvo scale models which have been announced or just been released. |
Volvo offers five different trim levels for their XC90: Kinetic, Momentum, R-Design, Inscription and Excellence. GTA (Welly) will release an 1:18 scale model featuring the automaker’s sporty R-Design pack. Volvo’s R-Design packs don't include any improved engine performance but they do add a sporty presence for the vehicles—both inside and out. Typical enhancements include aero mods, stiffened suspension, uprated wheels and tires, sports seats and perforated leather trim. Other features are among others enlarged intakes up front, new side sills, silver side mirror caps and enlarged wheels (20" or 22"). The upcoming diecast model will be available in two different colors: crystal white pearl metallic (707) and bursting blue metallic (720). The latter is an exclusive paint only available with the R-Design option. The 1:18 model features four opening doors as well as working hood and tailgate. GTA will distribute their model under item number 11009. I don't have any info's about an official retail price. My guess is it will be somewhere between 130 and 150 €. The new generation of the Volvo XC90 is without a doubt an important part of Volvo's actual production share. It seems that the XC90 plays an nearly important part as scale model. Norev started last year with the release of the official merchandising model in 1:43. Welly recently followed by presenting the first photos of their 1:60 and 1:38 toy versions of the XC90. And as I mentioned back in June GTA - one of Welly's own labels - will release later this year an 1:18 counterpart of the all-new XC90. And now it's the turn of Motor City Classics to announce another 1:18 scale model version of the XC90. Motor City Classics was so far rather well know for offering mainly 1:18 scale models of classic US cars: Ford Model A, Lincoln KB, Chrysler Town & Country convertible, Ford Woody Station Wagon, Chevrolet Woody Station Wagon, Studebaker Golden Hawk, Airstream trailer, ... Motor City Classcis has announced that they will offer the 2016 model of the XC90 in two different colors:
As stated on several websites both versions may be available as early as next November. So you might get/find your copy under the tree at the end of the year. The model offered by Motor City Classics is made of diecast. I ignore however which manufacturer will produce these models. A well informed source told me that the models by Motor City Classics and by GTA/Welly will not be made by the same manufacturing company. We will have to wait before being able to compare whose model is the most accurate. Motor City Classics wins in my opinion when it comes to paint schemes. They will provide us with the two attractive colors which are onyx black metallic and luminous sand metallic whereas GTA/Welly will offer their model in white or blue.
The all-new Volvo XC90 will be offered later this year as a 1:18 scale model by Welly. It will be available under Welly's label GTA. Welly offers more detailed scale models under that name. The price tag will probably turn around the 80-90 € (90-100 $) range. The first release of Volvo's actual XC90 will be painted blue. The item number will be gta11009b. The model will most probably be ready for this autumn. Welly showed earlier this year at the Toy Fair in Nürnberg that they will offer the XC90 also in two smaller scales: 1:36
1:64
A precise release date has not yet been communicated for either of these three models. The above photos show the actual XC90 and not a model!
