NEW RELEASES |
You will be able to find here news about the latest Volvo scale models which have been announced or just been released. |
A new baseplate and those white window cardboard boxes on your left are the reason why Volvo's web-shop is offering their new 1:87 scale models at a price three times more expensive than the regular retail price. These are in fact the same models Herpa is offering for 10.50 €. Volvo is in fact asking 38.70 € for one model. It's up to you to decide whether those little white boxes are worth the 28 € or not. And no ... it's not April 1st yet.

The number thirty-four in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 480 Turbo. Volvo had the intention to offer the 480 on the US-market but the car never made it across the Atlantic ocean. One reason were unfavourable currency exchange rates back in the second half of the 1980's. I'm convinced that some of you are frustrated to see a second Volvo 480 appearing in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas. Editions Atlas choose to produce a second livery of the 480 since they decided twice to enlarge the collection. The 2-3 models offered in two different colors and/or decorations were needed to fill the gap which is needed to design and produce new models. The other possibility would have been a larger break between two releases. The good news is that this is finally the last Volvo of this collection which is painted red.
Volvo's merchandising department is offering two new 1:87 scale models. This is indeed a surprise to see that Volvo is now also offering H0 models in their web-shop. They are starting with the Volvo P1800 in light blue and the Volvo P1800 ES in gold metallic. Both models are fixed on a black plastic base. Herpa, and not Norev as I initially wrote, is producing these plastic scale models. I do not know who had the fabulous idea to take regular Herpa models and to sell them for three times the regular retail price. They take us for a bunch of idiots.
!!! Please do not buy these models from Volvo's web-shop. They are way too expensive !!! Sources & copyright :
Editions Atlas has just announced another scoop. They will release the Volvo Collection as a test in France at the end of this year. The test of this 1:43 scale model collection will start with a white Volvo P1800. It will be available for only 4.99 € ( model + S&H ). The collection will continue with the Volvo Amazon 4-door in white over blue as release N°2 and with a black Volvo PV444 as N°3 if the test will be successful. The flyers will be available in the advertising folders distributed by the French based company La Redoute. La Redoute is the largest mail order company in France. La Redoute has also branches in over 20 countries around the world. The Volvo Collection has initially been launched in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. This was back in November 2011. Belgium and the Netherlands followed a few month later. Another test was launched this summer in Germany and seems to be quite successful. Source : Editions Atlas SA, Switzerland
Herpa has just announced that they will release the Volvo P1800 in the new color wine red metallic in January 2014. This will be the third color variant for the P1800. The H0 scale model will be available under item number 034906-002. The official retail price is 10.50 €. I'm however disappointed to see that Herpa has chosen to offer their scale model in a red paintwork which has never been offered by Volvo. The Volvo P1800 was available in two different red shades. The paint codes were red # 70 and red # 46. The tint offered by Herpa doesn't come close to one of these two red shades.
