You will be able to find here news about the latest Volvo scale models which have been announced or just been released. |
Editions Atlas has just released a new model car collection called the 'Ambulance Collection'. It will feature 1:43 diecast models of various ambulance models. This new collection will feature among other a couple Volvo models. Editions Atlas will release this collection in the five following countries: Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands. The first model in Scandinavia (SE, DK, NO & FI) will be a Volvo 145 Express Ambulance. The first model in the Netherlands will be the Volvo 260 Ambulance which many of you already know from the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas where is has been released as number fifty-six. You will find a short description as well as a short timeline for that specific model at the end of this article. As usually for these collections which Editions Atlas are offering by subscription, the first three models will be rather cheap and each will come with a small gift. I don't know how ave no many models have already been foreseen and I have no clue how large this Ambulance Collection might become at the end. All 1:43 scale models are made out of diecast and are produced by Ixo for Editions Atlas. Volvo 260 ambulance (NL) - background info's and photos provided by the Dutch website www.ambulancearchief.nl This was the first Volvo ambulance of this type to be used in The Netherlands. It was purchased by the private local ambulance service Westerbaan in Dedemsvaart (NL) in full Swedish color including the black bonnet. The bonnet (hood) was later painted white. In 1986 it was sold to the Volvo-factory (later NedCar) in Born (NL) for their emergency service. Photo courtesy of www.ambulancearchief.nl

The number seventy-one in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 240 GLT estate. Do I really have to introduce you this classic brick? I don't think so. This classic Swede has contributed a lot to Volvo's reputation for strong and everlasting cars. And I'm sure many of you still regret that Volvo has stopped producing the 240's. Volvo produced a total of 2,862,053 units between 1974–1993. The trim label GLT stands for "Grand Luxe Touring". Editions Atlas choose to offer the 1:43 diecast model in a very appealing color combo of dark red metallic with a lighter red interior. You just have to love this brick which comes fitted with Volvo's classic 15" Corona rims. Oxford Diecast goes on and on with their new model offensive. A new Volvo model as well as new color versions have been announced. The latest and newest form is a 1:76 replica of the Volvo PV544. Only a couple of the announced models back from 2016 have recently been released. Further paint schemes for the Volvo Amazon 4-door (1967), Volvo P1800 (1967), Volvo 245 DL Estate (1975) as well as Volvo 760 have been announced. I have listed all the versions - released as well as announced - in this post so that each of you can have an overview of all of their Volvo models in 1:76 scale. I'm pretty sure that further versions and models will be developed and offered in a near future. The upcoming Toy Fair in Nürnberg (DE) may provide us with further info's. I'm confident that Oxford Diecast will release even more models and liveries since most of their models are offered in both scales scales 1:43 and 1:76. The Volvo 760 has so far only been revealed as a drawing. This shows however quite an awkward design from the C-pillar on to the very end of the trunk. I guess we will have to wait and see if the final model will be correct or not. And as already mentioned in my previous posts I think it is also worth mentioning that the scale models are RHD (right hand drive ) versions. 1:76 Oxford Automobile
The number seventy in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 940 estate. Volvo's 940 was a real success since it combined comfort as well as huge space inside. What else could I tell you about this scale model. It totally deserves his place in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas. I'm personally not a fan of the chosen silver metallic paint. Volvo offered in my opinion way more attractive paint schemes. But this is just my opinion. A distinct difference between the Volvo 940 and 960 is the hood. The one from the 940 does not go all the way up to the windshield. The 900 Series was introduced in 1990 to replace the 700 Series from which it derived. Prior to the end of its production, the 960 was renamed as the Volvo S90 (saloon) and Volvo V90 (estate), and the 940 was renamed 940 Classic, becoming the last rear-wheel-drive cars from Volvo.
Editions Atlas has launched at the end of last year a test in Sweden for a 1:8 plastic kit of a Volvo 122S Amazon. The final built up model will be a stunning 56cm long! This kit is made out of diecast as well as plastic parts. The model will also feature working parts as for example real working lights. The photos on the flyer tell it all and do show all the parts and gifts which will come with the first shipments. This field tests has been launched by Editions Atlas to check if there is enough positive feedback among customers old and new for such a model. This large scale kit might be offered in a couple months by Editions Atlas on their website(s) if the test will be well received by customers in Sweden . Similar and previous kits normally consisted of 100 to 120 parts bag shipped to customers. Some don’t like it because it will take you quite some time before you will be able to show your finished model in your home and/or office. But it procures you also the opportunity to build yourself a model kit if you have never wanted to built one yourself or if you have been afraid that you may not be handy enough to finish one correctly and properly. But these kits are way easier to built since each bag only contains a handful of parts which can be easily assembled after receiving them. You will bet able to construct this Volvo Amazon 122S in small steps by following the assembly instructions which comes with each parts bag. Similar large scale kits have already bee offered and released by Editions Atlas, Editions Altaya as well as Eagle Moss. They included among others:
Tests which have not been released and commercialized included the:
I will write an update on minivolvo.lu if this newly announced by Editions Atlas will be officially released or buried among some other tests. The Swiss wholesaler and importer Arwico has released at the end of last year a set of a Volvo 144 and Volvo 145 as used by the Swiss Cantonal Police forces of Basel (Kantonalpolizei Baselland). The first duo consists of specially decorated plastic models made by Brekina. These H0 (1:87) models are offered in a specially decorated window cardboard box. This first set is offered for CHF 39.90 incl. VAT (± € 37/ ± $ 39). Arwico did not want to reveal me how many sets have and/or will be offered. I was told that they normally don't share this kind of info. Arwico sells this set only in Switzerland. Their item number is 52.92957 and Brekina's item number is BRK 92957. Two more sets will follow this year:
A precise release date has not yet been communicated. Set # 52.92957 – Kantonalpolizei Baselland (Cantonal Police Baselland) As you can see from the above photos showing the original Police cars not every detail has been fitted to the scale models. It would have preferred to see Arwico going to the very end and finalizing further details. Brekina has already produced some very exiting as well detailed cars. My educated guess is that the budget reasons have limited the amount of details. Upcoming sets:
The German wholesaler and importer Modelcarworld has released at the end of last year another 1:18 scale Volvo model under their own label BoS-Models. BoS stands for Best of Show. The latetst release is a second run of the already known Volvo PV445 Duett. A first run had been released back in 2015. The new release features a nice red over white over red paint scheme. The interior is all black. The first run was offered in the nicer two-tone interior version. This resin model doesn't feature any opening and/or moving parts with the exception of the wheels. You can buy you a copy of this 1:18 Volvo PV445 Duete replica if you are fine spending € 119.95.
