NEW RELEASES |
You will be able to find here news about the latest Volvo scale models which have been announced or just been released. |
The British manufacturer The Essence Of The Car has added today a new Volvo model to his Volvo model range. Volvo's rare P1900 has been David's choice. He has created this model as usual from scratch. This painted model is made out of resin and comes in the usual scale of 1:43. You can order your copy for £60.00 (€67.71 / $82.96) on David's website theessenceofthecar.co.uk. This price does not include any shipping fees. Many will argue that there are way more exact replicas of the Volvo P1900 on the market and I can't blame them. But reproducing every tiny detail of a car is not the idea behind the models offered by The Essence Of The Car. It resembles quite a lot those Scandinavian plastic models once offered in the 1960's. Quotes from the website theessenceofthecar.co.uk: The Volvo P1900 is a Swedish fiberglass-bodied roadster of which sixty eight units were built between 1956 and 1957 by Volvo Cars.

The number seventy-nine in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo V40 in the livery of the Swedish custom service. The Swedish "Tull" has and is still using a variety of Volvo models in their fleet. Unfortunately I don't have enough knowledge and/or info's to tell you more about the original car. Here are a few photos of actual cars: utryckningsfordon.se/tull
The number seventy-eight in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo PV455 convertible by Valbo. What a nice surprise to see this newly engineered model after quite a few "doubles". The red paint scheme is not my first choice. But the overall shapes and dimensions of the car are correct. I'm pretty sure most Volvo fans are happy to see this scale model popping up in this collection. Volvo offered and sold their PV444 model range also as rolling chassis without bodies under the designation PV455. A number of Swedish Coachbuilders built and offered specialist vehicles on the popular PV445 chassis. Convertibles were offered by Valbo Karosserifabrik, by Nordbergs of Stockholm and by Ringborgs Karossfabrik of Norrkoping. Quote from the website pvchassi.com: After a somewhat fumbling start the serious coachbuilding began in 1923 in the former brickworks and the tar producing factory in Valbo outside Gävle, Sweden. When World War II began in 1939 there were about 80 employees with the founders son Gunnar Åhlénius in the managerial post. Customers were the Swedish army, the Swedish Mail authority, the department for telecommunications and the electricity power company Vattenfall. After the ending of World War II the activity prospered following the growing need for vehicles. In the beginning of the 1950's the production was put on conveyor belt. At this state 1-1/2 cars were produced per shift. The commercial advertising for the van built on the PV 445 chassis said: "Van for workdays - estate wagon for Sundays."
The number seventy-seven in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 145 Express from the Swedish Polis. These Volvo 145 Express were mainly intended for use on the motorways. They were able to carry a lot of material. These made them unfortunately way to heavy. Notice the rear side windows which feature the very same finish as the windows of the ambulance versions. The scale model is not only a simple spin-off of previous versions from Editions Atlas' Volvo Collection. This new release comes with a couple newly tooled and added detail parts. The number seventy-six in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo P220 Amazon estate. This Amazon estate is the perfect companion for any of your Volvo's experiencing a 'lil cough this summer.
The number seventy-five in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 165. Some might say: "what??!!! … a 164 estate … Volvo never produced such a car!".
Well that is neither completely wrong nor right. Some of you might be lucky to catch a glimpse of this Volvo somewhere around the globe. But you will for sure find a few examples on the web. Here is a short background information: quote by Fredrik Nybard - the owner of a Volvo 165: The Volvo 164 was a step up for Volvo. Offering an official 165 estate would have made the 164 less prestigious and it would have made the production of further body forms §way more complicated. The production was based on the wheelbase length and the 164 was roughly 100 mm longer as the 140/145 so that the long straight six cylinder would fit.

The official price are SEK 250 (€ 25.94 / $ 29.64 / £ 23.08) Volvo 165 – drömmen om lyxkombin Four years ago Matrix Scale Models announced the first r-t-r model of a Volvo 245 Transfer as a scale model. The first run was a blue painted version of Volvo's extended 245 estate. It took Matrix Scale Models quite some time to release a second livery of this rather unusual car. The second production run will reflect Volvo's stretched estate in the livery of a Taxi. The 1:43 scale model made out of resin will be finished in white and will feature a pretty exact copy of a Taxi sign on the roof. Well yes the Taxi sign looks a little oversized on the first photos of this new replica. The scale model features round headlamps. You will probably notice that the two pics in this post are showing the version with the small rectangular headlamps. Please have a look at the scanned catalog and you will see the version with the older round headlamps. Matrix Scale Models will offer their replica as 1:43 resin model. You can order your copy under item # MX12106-052. This will be a rather small and limited production batch so hurry if you wanna be sure to have at least one of these in your collection. ![]()
The number seventy-four in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 940 Turbo. This 1:43 scale diecast model represents the last generation of Volvo's 940 model range. Volvo offered this final production batch of the 940 series from 1996 to 1998. It was one of Volvo's last rear-wheel drive cars.
The number seventy-three in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 244 DL Anniversary from 1977. Volvo released this model to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary. Based on the 244DL, the Anniversary Car was finished in metallic silver with a black and gold band around the waistline. Around 50 were sold in ten different countries, taking the total number produced up to 500.
