The number sixty-nine in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo TP21 UN (United Nations). Volvo's TP21 off-road radio communications vehicle (radiobil) was used by the Swedish Armed Forces. Volvo offered the 4x4 TP21 between 1953 and 1958. Volvo's TP21 was used by the Swedish Army in Cyprus in the 1960's under an UN (United Nations) mandate. The first international peacekeeping troops arrived in Cyprus in March 13, 1964. The first troops were Canadian, followed shortly by Irish, Finnish and Swedish contingents. The TP21 was therefore repainted in UN's all white paint scheme. Only a handful photos exist in the public domain which makes is pretty difficult to be able to tell which is which. A couple photos show the Volvo TP21 with sightly different signs during the UN mission in Cyprus.
Yesterday Volvo has officially presented the newest generation of the Cross Country declination for their large breaks. I don't get it why you should buy an altered version of a large estate which features elegant lines to end up with a high standing car which seems to wear still some of the plastic body panels usually fitted to the pre-production cars running on public roads. Well my guess is Volvo's marketing department knows what they are doing. A launch of a new Volvo model brings in his train a 1:43 scale counterpart. Official photos of the scale model have not yet been revealed. But Volvo's merchandising department has already released details of the first two versions. The first 1:43 scale model of the Volvo V90 Cross Country will be available in osmium gray metallic (714) and crystal white metallic (707). Each will be offered for €47.60 incl tax. You can order the official Volvo merchandising models @ collection.volvocars.com However I really don't get it why they offer the model in crystal white. Each of the light colors look pretty weird in combination with all the dark plastic body parts for the car. It just doesn't look right to me.
JMK is about to finish a run for H0 (1:87) kits of the Volvo V60 as well as the Volvo V60. I posted a tiny teaser earlier this month but nobody was able to find out. The kits will be made out of resin and you will have to assemble and paint them. Each of the very clean kits will be available for € 24 & shipping costs. You can reserve yours by sending an email to JMK. You can also order and buy these and other Volvo models made by JMK at dutchart-models.nl.
Volvo offers five different trim levels for their XC90: Kinetic, Momentum, R-Design, Inscription and Excellence. GTA (Welly) will release an 1:18 scale model featuring the automaker’s sporty R-Design pack. Volvo’s R-Design packs don't include any improved engine performance but they do add a sporty presence for the vehicles—both inside and out. Typical enhancements include aero mods, stiffened suspension, uprated wheels and tires, sports seats and perforated leather trim. Other features are among others enlarged intakes up front, new side sills, silver side mirror caps and enlarged wheels (20" or 22"). The upcoming diecast model will be available in two different colors: crystal white pearl metallic (707) and bursting blue metallic (720). The latter is an exclusive paint only available with the R-Design option. The 1:18 model features four opening doors as well as working hood and tailgate. GTA will distribute their model under item number 11009. I don't have any info's about an official retail price. My guess is it will be somewhere between 130 and 150 €. Norev will offer new colors for their 1:43 scale models of the Volvo V40, S90 and XC90. Each of the three models will be available in a new color. The Volvo V40 (2016) will be available in 'christal white metallic' (707), the S90 in 'osmium grey metallic' (714) and the XC90 in 'savile grey metallic' (492). Norev has released the V40 and S90 so far in two paint schemes for Volvo's official merchandising program. The newly announced colors will be available in Norev's regular model program. And the new paint scheme for the Volvo XC90 is already the sixth color. It seems to me that Volvo's new XC90 is also a high-selling model among scale model aficionados. You will have to wait until spring 2017 before these new releases will be available.
Catch a glimpse at these two upcoming models .... I will give away a free model to the first one who can tell me the model, the scale as well as the manufacturer of these two models.
Volvo has offered a mussel blue Volvo S90 scale model to a couple Volvo employees. This Volvo S90 is the well known 1:43 diecast miniature made by Norev. Volvo choose this little gift to say thank you to the employees involved in the development and commercialization of Volvo's new V54X chassis. Volvo's new flagships - the S90 and V90 - are based on this chassis. The base holding the model is therefore labeled "V54X COMMERCIAL CORE TEAM - TACK!". Tack is Swedish and means "Thank you". Only around 25 models have been given away! They came packed in the standard window-box. Courtesy of Dolpff W.
Minichamps has released the third run of their 1:18 scale version of the Volvo 244 GL from model-year 1986. The third production batch is painted white and features once again black leather seats. This mode has no opening parts (doors, trunk, hood). The first two batches sold out quite fast so this is another opportunity to add the first 1:18 scale model of Volvo's iconic brick - the Volvo 244 - to your personal collection. You can buy this 1:18 model under item 155171402 at your local store. This model is offered for ± 75-80 € . This white painted model has been produced in a limited run of 504 units. Model overview:
