The tenth model in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is a gold metallic Volvo 262C Bertone with black vinyl roof. The model reflects a car from the first production run that has been produced from 1977 to 1979.

The color combination that Editions Atlas has chosen for their scale model has however never been available in real.

The first series of 262C Bertones were available only in Mystic Silver metallic paint with a black vinyl roof and black interior; these used Volvo's 262-based trunklid and flat tail lamp design, which would be changed for a deeper trunklid and larger wrap-around tail lamps on the $15,995 1979 models. They featured a new lever-type thermostatic heater control system, and manual transmission-equipped versions received the sporty 242GT's tighter shift linkage. Metallic gold and black single-tone paints, as well as beige leather, were added to the exclusive black roof over silver color palate. The $17,345 1980 Bertone Coupé, as it was then known, gained the 242GT's front air dam and lost 35 mph from its speedometer, as per new American regulations. Rarely seen new colors included single-tone light metallic blue and a gold roof-over-bronze metallic paint scheme. For their last year of production, the vinyl roof was no longer fitted to the now-$19,550 Coupés, and a redesigned and color-coordinated instrument panel extended to incorporate the center console.

As far as I know, the gold color is produced with the vinyl black roof, but only on asking, the colcor gold however was not available in the first years of production..so you're absolutely right that the car cannot be from the first years of production...

Hi Tom,
I havn't been able to find any records so far that this color option was available.
The body of this scale model reflects however a model from the first batch, Just look at the trunk and rear light details.
I presume that the folks from Ixo have messed with their available data and did a mix of the 3 produced runs of the 262C Bertone :

- the rims of the 2nd and 3rd run
- the body from the first run
- the color from the ?? run
- ......

Note to everyone :
please send me a copy of your sales folder if you have one showing this model.

You're absolutely right, they made a a mix of the 3 produced 262C's through the years..But I have seen at least two gold colored cars with black vinyl roof, and they didn't look as amateurs work, so....I assume that you could order the vinyl in the last two production years because that's when volvo offered this color gold?

Are you sure that this color combination wasn't produced? I'm pretty sure that I've already seen it at a volvo meeting in sweden. Ok, could have been a modification, but when I see this auction:
http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/volvo-262-bertone-coupe-ch-import-augsburg/158807332.html
it seems to be original.
Besides, a very nice model by Ixo, after the 164 and the 1900 another model car which I'd like to have in my collection - or in my garage ;)

hm... I was too quick. I haven't quite looked at the pictures, my posted car is a later produced vehicle.

Well It might be possible that I'm wrong. I have based my comments on the records I have been able to find.

I was told that Volvo delivered this two-tone color combination on special order. But so far nobody was able to proof it with catalogs of that time or any other document.

Even the website volvobertone.com gives no information about such a car configuration.

No, but these special cars were also made to order because they were largely handbuilt...You wouldn't find the special ordered cars in a brochure. I'm sure that this is the case with these cars
