Volvo 264 TE by Editions Atlas

The number thirty-seven in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is a Volvo 264TE. The car represents a car of the model year 1978. It is painted dark blue and features a gray interior. Editions Atlas has really done a great job on this 1:43 scale model. The diecast model features all the many chromed parts which the real size counterpart has. Have a look into the interior and you will be able see the correct gear knob for the automatic transmission which was standard on this car. The spare seats behind the fronts seats are there as well. Even the door panels have been correctly reproduced. The car badges on the rear and on the front are all there. They are reproduced with very clear and crisp decals. The car I was able to photograph stands on the standard steel rims which are nicely detailed.

Place this car next to the one offered recently by Matrix Scale Models and you won't be able to notice many differences. Well there is one exception : the retail price.

The Volvo 264 TE was built from 1974 to 1983. In total about only 300 units of this special bodied Volvo had been built. The Swedish coachbuilder Nilsson as well as the Italian coachbuilder Bertone built all those cars for Volvo. Volvo provided the base model which was in fact the rather rare Volvo 262 which Volvo offered only between 1975 and 1977. This car was then shipped to Nilsson or Bertone where the car was cut in half and a second door was added. This second door was a totally new made part. They were not able to use a regular door because they were too short. The goal was to offer the customers a really large and comfortable entry to the rear seats. This car was especially loved by the government of the former 'DDR' ( GDR - German Democratic Republic, generally known in English as East Germany ).
